Black and White

She is pale, I am not..
Red headed and thin lipped is she..
Hazel eyed and chicken fried is me..
She is republican.. Even her smile is conservative
My liberal ways have got my mind so open, I feel like a city highway...
Her daddy left her at a young age and she hasn't seen him since..
My daddy stayed around and raised me every step of the way..
Corporate America embraces her.. her petite suits, freckles and eye contact make them love her even more
Corporate America stares at me.. they can't seem to get passed my freshly twisted locs and oversized earrings..
She went in resume-less only to get hired on the spot..
I had three follow up interviews only to be told the job was given to a more qualified candidate..
My briefcase, pending bachelor's degree and letters of recommendation meant nothing..

I work by day and hustle by night..
My neo-soul blares through my apartment as I sew in tracks (weaving is my second area of expertise),
Her appearance is the only thing that's sqeaky clean...
For she has made a few tracks of her own..
They line up across her forearm and she shakes when she needs that next hit
Her lips are red and chapped as she thinks of who will give her money..
She HAS to get high..
She's just like her mama.. And that's why her daddy left..
Drug infested, often arrested yet she is the one society has protected...

But these are the things people don't know or care to know..
You learn to see so much more when you look further and go beyond the surface..
There's so much more than just black and white..

WOW! That's the world we live in. Very sad, but true. Excellent piece.
